Tell us how he/she is making a difference:
No matter what your role in the educational landscape may be, one thing is certain, it is the whole community that is the driving force between the success of our most precious gift; our students. In the 21st century a school technologist is a huge force in whether a community is good or great. For our school community, Kim Mattina is that force! But why listen to what one person has to say when you can have the school community weigh in on Kim's positive impact...

•Mrs. Mattina is constantly looking for innovative programs for our students and sharing them with the staff. She is always willing to come into my classroom to teach my students how to use different programs as well as, solving technical issues that I can’t. I know I can always count on Mrs. Mattina, and she is very deserving of the award. Mrs. Mattina is an expert in her field.

•Mrs. Mattina has helped me many times over the years here at the William Davies Middle School. She led me through the process of using graphic organizers such as Popplet and Text2Mind. Mrs. Mattina is also mentoring me as I will go for me Google certification this summer and fall.

•Mrs. Mattina strives to integrate technology in each content across grade levels. She is a true leader in technology as she works with both staff and students to change how we view and interact with technology. Thanks to her dedication, our students have grown tremendously as they have explored the various facets of Google Docs and Spreadsheets as well as 2.0 tools. We are lucky to have her expertise at our fingertips!

•Mrs. Kim Mattina is constantly finding current up to date ideas about how we, as teachers, can infuse our lessons with technology.

•Mrs. Kim Mattina works with teachers constantly so that we can improve our own technology skills.

•Mrs. Mattina is our ON CALL doctor for ideas, issues, projects, and even emergency surgeries. She has made it her professional business to provide interventions and support for staff, and always has time for collaboration.

•Mrs. Mattina has helped our class on numerous occasions, she was patient with our population of special education students and a non-tech savvy teacher. She researched innovative ideas for our students and then patiently facilitated the implementation.

•Mrs. Mattina is a team player who is always available to all, even in a non-technology setting. She was instrumental in the success of our standardized testing, administering the PARCC make-ups without any issues or difficulty.

•Mrs. Mattina has patience to assist all individuals that are not technically savvy.

•I have been fortunate to work with Mrs. Mattina in both the primary school and now in the middle school. She is constantly looking for ways to improve the schools by infusing technology to support the curriculum. In addition she provides staff members with a tremendous amount of professional development, both formally and informally, in order to improve our practice.

•For years, Mrs. Mattina always shares new web 2.0 tools and keeps us updated. In addition she informs me of new web 2.0 tools that are specifically targeted for my English Language Learners to enrich my instruction and our students’ education. She always finds time to answer technological questions and come into our classroom to assist whether it is to help teach students to save things in the correct folder or facilitating a new web 2.0 tool. She is always eager to help. She is an asset to our school.

•Mrs. Matitina is a friendly face in the hallways who is not only willing, but also enthusiastic in answering any technology based questions. She has personally come into my classroom to help the students graph coordinates on Google maps in order for us to map the Ring of Fire and understand ocean gyres. She has also assisted staff with Google education and utilizing Google Drive.

•Mrs. Mattina has been instrumental with the implementation of the STEM/PLTW curriculum, especially the integration of technology. Some of the projects that she has implemented successfully include 3-D printing, mobile technology, computer programming, and robotics.

•Mrs. Mattina has continuously added current Web 2.0 tools into my Language Arts curriculum that assist my students with IEPs to keep pace with their general education peers. She is friendly and supportive with my students and always takes her time while demonstrating the Web 2.0 features to my classes. My students would not have half of the capabilities they do now with technology, Web 2.0, and Google use thanks to her.

•As a specialist on staff (Speech Language Specialist) I assist my students in completing their assignments. Many of these assignments utilize a web tool, in which I may need a tutorial, since I don’t work with it on a consistent bases. Mrs. Mattina has always assisted me and worked around both our schedules in order to do so (before or after school).

•Mrs. Mattina offers technology ideas to the staff and always shows a willingness to try something new. She is flexible with her schedule and does what it takes to accommodate the various teachers’ schedules. She’s the go to person for questions about iPads and apps.

•Mrs. Mattina is always helpful with advice on what types of tools will best fit a situation. She is always turn-keying information to staff through the many professional development opportunities she has presented. She was a leader in planning and implementing the first ever EdCamp South Jersey where over 100 educational professionals and parents met to share ideas.

Kim is a remarkable technology trainer. In my capacity as a professional development provider, Kim has been a great asset as an Authorized Google Education Trainer, as well as a presenter for our Regional Technology Conferences. Her qualifications as a technology instructor, and her character, are above reproach, not to mention her friendly and welcoming demeanor in the classroom setting.

About the Nominee

Briefly explain what makes this person a noteworthy collaborator, contributor or role model
Kim is one of the most dedicated and passionate individuals I have had the pleasure to work with. She not only helps all teachers incorporate the newest technology skills in their classrooms, she gives PD on Tech Tuesday, and presents at Unconferences, Parent Camp, Ed Camp and various conferences throughout the area. In addition, Kim’s knowledge and passion reaches far beyond the walls of the Davies School. She not only makes a significant difference in the school, but reaches out to all teachers. Kim is a Google Educator Trainer, an Educational Technology Consultant, and a Social Media Adviser. Through her Blog, all educators are able to benefit from her technology skills needed for 21st century learning. Well deserving! #bammyawards
